Oregonian still going strong

I am the editor of The Oregonian, and I read the recent letter by Gerald Baldwin of Spokane (“Keep local newspapers alive,” May 3) about comments at a Pink Martini concert.

Yes, yes, yes, Thomas Lauderdale is right to encourage people to subscribe to local newspapers. But, to paraphrase Mark Twain, reports of The Oregonian’s demise are greatly exaggerated. The Oregonian is nearly 170 years old and going strong. In fact, we have the largest newsroom in Oregon and the highest readership we have ever had, thanks to OregonLive, our website. Our journalism is regularly recognized with national awards, and our local news coverage is unmatched in the state.

I encourage you to check it out. You can subscribe to our eNewspaper, delivered to your computer, phone or tablet each morning, by calling 800-452-1420. Or subscribe to any local newspaper to support independent local journalism.
