Vestal’s whole truth
Shawn Vestal does have a fine sense of humor, and not in the snide way Mr. Anderson intends it in his letter, calling him “hilarious” (“Vestal missing whole truth,” May 19).
Furthermore, Vestal has intelligence and knows that the City Council did not pass “laws made up for a sanctuary city” but did what it has the legal right to do: pass a policy motion to not assist the federal government in their immigrant stop, search and seize enforcement. There is no legal requirement for municipalities or states to offer such assistance.
Besides a sense of humor and intelligence, Mr. Vestal also possesses knowledge, such as the fact that, contrary to Mr. Anderson’s opinion, the law regarding obstruction of justice is not dependent upon the finding regarding the relevant underlying case.
And I conclude that the “whole truth” is that Mr. Vestal is a “real reporter” and a fine “opinion columnist” and we are lucky to have him. Anderson’s “sliver” of truth is a dirty splinter.
