Learn the job first
The positions of mayor and city council president are not entry-level jobs. They require extensive knowledge in a host of areas in government and all its departments. These would include services, structural makeup, employee management skills, financial and budgetary elements. Not to mention problem solving and communication skills.
Sunday’s editorial endorsements of Nadine Woodward and Cindy Wendle are disappointing and out in left field. Neither candidate has the resume required for the jobs they are seeking. Loving your city and wanting change does not make one qualified for these positions. Their professional experience is lacking in the required skills. Both express “sound bite” solutions to very complex problems. “One size does not fit all.”
I do agree that we need more women in leadership. However, I recommend they start by getting the much-needed experience by working for one of the city council representatives as an assistant. There is nothing like working in the trenches.
