More than just an economy
In the past year I’ve read about an NGO funded by a very successful family business in New England that is providing free consultancy services to help resuscitate small, dying towns in the Midwest. They are having successes.
A key factor they’ve discovered is to start with this premise: None of us live in economies. We all live in communities where an economy is a key factor, but nonetheless the focus has to be on empowering community members creatively to work together to solve economic and other issues.
That’s a good starting point when thinking about local candidates for public office: who is focusing most on the health and interests of all the communities within our larger community? Versus who is focusing on economic buzzwords?
