Vaping fines teach responsibility

I am totally flummoxed regarding Spokane Public Schools’ decision to reverse their solution to fine repeat vaping offenders in public schools. Part of becoming a good citizen is taking responsibility for one’s actions. Certainly schools are a resource for developing this characteristic. Fining repeat vaping offenders is a great solution to this skyrocketing unhealthy behavior in children.

Of course people — students or otherwise — do not like to give up their money for any fines. However, most will do so and hopefully learn to curb the behavior that led to the fine. I have to wonder what or whom influenced the reversal of this solution. (Who exactly are the “stakeholders”?) I sincerely hope that fines are re-instituted instead of just having further education, as it appears this solution has not been very successful. at changing behavior.

Additionally, funds garnered from fines can then be put into additional resources to curtail this terrible habit.
