A win for Shawn

Thank goodness Breean Beggs has edged past Cindy Wendle for City Council president, as we have saved Shawn Vestal from having a four-year meltdown of trying to report on a non-progressive, business-oriented city government instead of his current dream: a four-year stalemate brought to you by the monkey wrench Beggs will toss while being at “the intersection of power … as the most consequential and strongest elected official.”

So fear not, dear citizens: for while Mayor Woodward with her “half-baked notions” will spend her time tweeting pretty pictures from City Hall (and spending all that evil Realtor money!), the Big Boys will be doing all the heavy lifting. And Breean Beggs is just the man for the the job - “smart, experienced and deeply conversant with the context of important issues facing the city,” let alone “temperamentally perfect for the position.”

Oh. My. God. Can fan-boy Vestal be any more fawning and sycophantic of an elected official? I have no doubt Mr. Beggs is a fine, upstanding government wonk, but you see, it’s Mayor Woodward who needs to “evolve” and respond appropriately to the upcoming division in government. She’s already incurred Vestal’s tsk-tsking by not naming her transition team and informally “taking up space at City Hall.” Oh, my, the vapors…..

On second thought, the next four years are lining up very nicely for Mr. Vestal. His new punching bag hasn’t even taken office yet and he’s got a running start on all his best lines.
