Ending endless war
Though an end to the U.S. mission in Iraq was declared in 2011, more than eight years later the law that authorized the U.S. invasion of Iraq — the 2002 Iraq Authorization for the Use of Military Force — is still on the books. In Washington, DC, last week, I joined 400 advocates with the Friends Committee on National Legislation to urge our members of Congress to formally end the war in Iraq by including the repeal of the 2002 Iraq AUMF in the National Defense Authorization Act currently under negotiation.
Rep. McMorris Rodgers not only took the time to meet with me and other constituents who traveled to our nation’s capital from Eastern Washington, but also assured our group that she would be willing to meet with Rep. Adam Smith, chair of the House Armed Services Committee, to express her support to formally end the war in Iraq and block the president’s ability to use this law to justify new wars. I’m grateful for Rep. McMorris Rodgers’ support and efforts to end endless war.
