Who wants something for nothing?
A number of results of the recent election show that it’s not Democrats who want something for nothing. A few years ago, there was a bad winter and local cities had trouble clearing the streets. The Spokane official who was in charge of that lost his job. However, authorize a tax that increases the ability of cities to provide services the voters demand? That’s verboten, shouts the supposed conservatives.
The same happened with the idiotic, exceedingly low, license tag fees recently passed — with overwhelming support on this side of the mountains. I constantly hear and read people whining about the state of Washington’s roads. However, pay a fair value for licensing our vehicles? Nyet! It seems that the so called conservatives don’t believe they should have to pay for services. Services should magically show up for free.
The Republicans decry “tax and spend liberals.” President Clinton balanced a budget, not spending more than he brought in as revenue. The current occupant of the White House? $1.5 trillion given to the wealthiest (half of whom aren’t Americans), while passing the two largest budgets in history. Republicans are “tax and not spend” or “don’t tax while demanding spending.”
