Erasing Shea’s stain

It’s time to fill out our ballots and in the Valley it means taking the first step in erasing the embarrassing stain of Rep. Matt Shea. Three positions are up on the Spokane Valley City Council and Shea, whose crazy writings have brought us international shame, has endorsed a candidate in each. What’s more, there have been behind-the-scenes shenanigans to influence the election.

The Shea camp put up two people for Council Position 2. One candidate maliciously attacked incumbent Brandi Peetz before the primary so their preferred choice could keep clean hands and make it to the general election. Now Brandi needs your vote.

Arne Woodard, an incumbent for Position 3, has long been a Shea puppet. Woodard’s recent racist insensitivity and shallow agenda show he is out of touch. Meanwhile challenger Lance Gurel has shown a great grasp of the issues facing the Valley, which include standing up to Shea and Valley Mayor Rod Higgins, who does Shea’s bidding. Lance would be a strong voice on the council.

For Position 6, Woodard recruited a candidate for the open seat but when it turned out the recruit didn’t support Shea they got another to try to stop longtime Valley teacher Tim Hattenburg from winning. Tim, a retired teacher and avid volunteer, is exactly the kind of person we want representing us.

As your ballots arrive, please start the momentum for 2020 by voting for Brandi Peetz, Lance Gurel and Tim Hattenburg.
