Treasure our treasures

As Spokane’s crown jewel, Riverfront Park, nears completion of its astoundingly beautiful renovation, I urge our city officials to emulate the Parks Department’s superb maintenance of the park by putting in place, on a routine basis, power washing of the Monroe Street Bridge.

As an avid walker, it saddens me to see the disgusting condition of the sidewalks on both sides of the bridge each morning as I walk the city’s streets. Human waste, garbage, discarded clothing and filthy blankets are not something we should want visitors to our wonderful town, nor residents for that matter, to encounter while walking in downtown Spokane.

We are having fabulous fall weather this year, with hundreds of people out strolling our sidewalks. Let’s get this done now.
