Beggs’ unconditional service
As snow blankets Spokane, I’m reminded of how brutally cold it was to stand outside and serve 300 people a night last winter. To set up, serve hot meals, and tear down for that many people at two locations took about three hours and quickly became painful.
One night it was especially cold, with windy snow that chilled you to your bones, when this man I’d never met came to help us serve. He introduced himself to me as Breean Beggs. I was impressed that he hung in until the end, half expecting him to leave after site one. It didn’t matter what side of the political lines we fell; we were just people helping other people because it was the right thing to do.
Since then he has helped many times in my journey to provide real solutions for our houseless through donations, volunteerism, or lending an ear and some advice. I’ve seen how he loves this city and everyone in it, regardless of their status, race or circumstance. I will support him any day of the week because I believe in him. Breean is a leader, he is collaborator, and he stands up and represents everyone in our city.
