Celebrating McClain’s journey

I attended All Saints, Gonzaga Prep and GU (for an MBA) and I just happened to be back in Spokane for a few days while Astronautgate was being documented in the paper. What a great article by Shawn Vestal! (“Cataldo’s new excuse doesn’t fly,” Oct. 11) Due to the challenges of becoming an astronaut, the odds of another Spokanite becoming one are extremely small, let alone another female!

Kudos to G. Prep for inviting Astronaut Anne McClain to share her inspiring journey, and for inviting other schools in the area to participate. While the rest of the world is teaching inclusivity and zero tolerance for bullying, some of Spokane’s Catholic elementary school leaders are hiding under a rock.

I suggest other parents join Cataldo’s Emma Owen and start forming carpools now for Anne’s next appearance, because I believe her career is just taking off. Surely parents do not believe that sitting in the same classroom for a couple of hours is more important than hearing what Anne has to say. And I am fairly certain she will not speak about her love life any more than our Catholic priests do while they are saying Mass.
