Human recklessness glorified

I am hard-pressed to decide who is more irresponsible with regard to endangered wildlife, the subject of your story who exposes himself to danger for fun and in the course of it slaughters an endangered wolverine, or the Spokesman that trumpeted his idiocy in a banner headline on the front page today (“North Idaho native thrives in extreme test in Canadian subarctic,” Sept. 5). Humans have put virtually all species of the globe in danger of extinction because of our selfish and irresponsible behavior.

It is time for a community newspaper like the Spokesman to stop glorifying this adolescent male recklessness and start helping develop a responsible attitude toward the world that we live in and the species that we are driving out.
