Contrasting approaches

Spokane has a housing crisis. It’s not just drug addicts and alcoholics panhandling on downtown street corners or camping on public property. It’s mothers with small children sleeping in cars or couch surfing with friends and family. It’s impoverished seniors who can’t use federal vouchers because there is no housing within the allowed cost limits set by HUD.

I subscribe to email updates from Nadine Woodward and Ben Stuckart. From Woodward I get fear mongering, lock ‘em up rhetoric that seems to emanate from conservative think tanks like Washington Policy Center and downtown developers.

From Stuckart I get what appears to be thoughtful, original analysis and detailed recommendations for concrete solutions that involve the whole community and address all the faces of homelessness in Spokane.

So who do you want leading the struggle to deal with homelessness in Spokane?
