Gutting our constitutions

The federal and state constitutions are being gralloched. The passing of a $2.2 trillion bill illustrates the wisdom of bread and circuses.

The Bill of Rights will be contorted during the period of “self-isolation” and irresponsible action will have measurable impact on future elections.

The Idaho 21-day “self-isolation order” is a misdemeanor violation, punishable by fine, imprisonment, or both! The constitutional violation of assembly, under current conditions, is an obvious and absolute hypocrisy. An abundant number of “essential” workers and the permitted travel for “exempt” purposes is a half-measure quarantine which evokes the wrestling-the-pig analogy.

Citizens need to repudiate constitutional violations, such as the prohibitions consisting of no gathering for civic (election) and spiritual-faith (church) related events found on page 4, item 6 of the director’s “order.” My assessment is that a 21-day “self-isolation order” is just short enough to allow for public acceptance, making an extension of a longer period easier to swallow!

The constitutional sheriff is reasonably obligated to deny enforcement and arguably required to publicly declare the prohibitions as unconstitutional. Such declarations prevent the impression of likely unlawful enforcement from being cultivated in the minds of citizens, decision makers and bureaucrats. Do you measure your constitutional sheriff candidate by inaction and silence?

Further, hospital districts, pursuant to Idaho Code, title 46, chapter 10, will not be constrained from receiving financial aid and reimbursement!
