Room for surgery?

I read today how our hospitals have a lot of rooms available for the coronavirus. My wife has a cancerous melanoma and has been told she has to wait for her surgery, ( a day surgery). It’s been over a month that we have waited.

No one knows for sure when or if well be hit by a surge of corona patients, but we do know the longer you wait for surgery, it can get worse. Anyone have any thoughts about this?
