Three more for the Lantern to stream on Friday

What with the major movie producers holding most of their product until the COVID-19 quarantine is over, it’s up the the smaller, independent theaters to provide us with enough interesting things to see.

And in the case of this part of the Inland Northwest, that means the Magic Lantern . Along with the movies that the theater is already offering through partnerships with various streaming services, three new films will be available on Friday:

“Deerskin” : French actor Jean Dujardin plays a man who becomes obsessed with his fringed leather jacket. Well, more than obsessed, actually.

This is what critic Owen Glieberman says: ” ‘Deerskin,’ written and directed by Quentin Dupieux, is a loopy entertaining WTF lark. It’s like a cross between ‘Barton Fink’ and ‘Henry: Portrait of a Serial Killer’ — the study of a desolate loner sunk into obsession, and the more we study him the more out there his obsession becomes.”

“Capital in the Twenty-First Century” : This documentary, based on the book by French economist Thomas Piketty , explores the development of capitalism and the truths underneath the popular myths that surround it.

This is what critic Roger Moore wrote: “Pinketty’s argument, that the feudalism and exploitation that Marx was decrying 150 years ago has returned, is worth hearing out in this lively, information-packed and damning documentary.”

“Crescendo” : A world-famous conductor is hired to create an Israeli-Palestinian outhitting orchestra and encounters a series of problems.

Here is a feature story about the movie.

That’s all for the moment. So go, stream a movie, and enjoy.
