Truth always matters

During a pandemic it is paramount. The letter by John Miller in today’s paper (“Another view,” April 24) claims there are 45,000 deaths per year in Spokane County from all causes. A quick check of the medical examiner’s records shows this is blatantly false. The actual number is about 5,000 per year.

But it does not require a review of official records to reveal the claim of 45,000 deaths per year is preposterous. It would mean almost 10% of the population of Spokane County dies every year. There would be a significant decline in the population if that were occurring.
