Love your neighbor

Far be it for me to cast judgment upon the faith of another. Not my job. But meditating on a Christian anti-masker’s statement that, “Jesus is my mask” brought to mind the “Fast of Temptation” where Jesus is told by Satan to throw himself from the top of the temple as a test of his faith, for surly God will save him. His reply was, “We should never test God.”

Add to that the commandments to: “Be our brother’s keeper, Love one another, Do unto others,” and finally being that all of us are God’s children, to “never lead a child astray for it is better to be cast into the sea with a weight around your neck.” Ouch!

Rather than violating the common sense of masks and social distancing and indulging in wild Q conspiracy theories meant to divide us in this time of crisis, perhaps it is best to take a walk in the lilies of the field. And to all of you who profess to represent Jesus, remember he also said, “Many who profess my name, when they come before me I’ll say, Who are you?” Trust me, I’ve heard these words, it is something you will never forget.

Faith and hope for the future and a love of God are meant to bring us together, to strengthen us in times of trial and humble us before the Truth. Perhaps Jesus would not need to wear a mask, but the rest of us need to do some deep soul searching on the meaning of “Love your neighbor.”
