Does Jesus’ appearance matter?

I was glad to see an article by Mr. Gerson about something other than bashing Trump but in reference to his piece on the ethnicity of Jesus, why this obsession? (“‘White Jesus’ inaccurate image,” Aug. 5)

Although it’s true that the Bible never mentions anything about his physical appearance, there are several accounts in other writings of the day. Many documents have been discovered where Jesus is mentioned by Pontius Pilate, centurions and the like. He has been described as fair, light eyes and tall, quite unusual for that time and place.

Regardless, does it really matter what he looked like? Another important point nobody seems to consider about Jesus is that he was HALF Jewish … God could have made him appear however he wanted so who knows what the other half was?
