Selective reading

David Wordinger’s letter to the editor (August 23rd) titled “Selective coverage” should have been titled “Selective reading.”

Googling “George Floyd fentanyl level” showed Mr. Wordinger’s claim that Mr. Floyd died of using fentanyl appears to be based on his acceptance of the recent actions of the lawyer representing the police officer accused of killing Mr. Floyd, who has ‘the idea’ that Mr. Floyd swallowed drugs while the officers were attempting to take him into custody.

If Mr. Wordinger would have continued to read the other Google listings he would have discovered that while the autopsies performed on Mr. Floyd did find fentanyl, the cause of death was cardiopulmonary arrest complicating law enforcement subdual, restraint, and neck compression, and the the manner of dearth was homicide.

I urge everyone who uses the internet to better inform themselves on whatever topic not to selectively read and accept as factual the first one or two listings…..continue to read on.
