Cartoon based on truth

This is in response to Dave Helma’s “A repugnant cartoon” letter (Tuesday, December 8).

Dave, you and I are in complete agreement that “There are (or should be) boundaries.” But Clay Bennett’s cartoon isn’t the thing that overstepped a line. No, that was the first “lady,” who is on tape whining about having to work on Christmas decorations for the White House. Actual quote: “Who gives a (blank) about Christmas stuff and decoration, but I need to do it, right?”

The cartoonist was simply doing what good political cartoonists do: pointing up the foibles and foolishness of those in power. He wasn’t “using a Christmas card to attack” Trump’s wife. No, this was just a wickedly funny way to let the first “lady” be hoisted by her own petard.
