Chick-fil-a over-covered

I was pretty much appalled by the coverage of the Chick-Fil-A opening in Spokane. How could you put such a thing on the FRONT PAGE when we have so many fine small businesses in Spokane who are struggling and could use the free advertising?

I was later somewhat appeased by the subsequent spreads by Shawn Vestal, and later by Kris KiIduff in the Food section touting the great selection of chicken sandwiches (and more) offered by our local businesses. I guess a huge traffic jam is worthy of news, but really … not the front page. And, unlike some other readers we have heard from, I appreciate Shawn’s forthright disclosure of the anti-LGBTQ leanings of the corporation. I like to know who I am supporting with my dollars, and where I would rather spend my money.

On a different note, thanks also to Shawn for his article on the disturbing lack of progress on the recommendations to our justice system spelled out in the Report for Reform put forward seven years ago. Shawn’s watchdog attitude and explanation of the shortcomings are necessary for us to understand what’s currently happening. His journalism makes our community better by motivating us to continue demanding positive change.
