State of the Union?

Well … our country has seemed to find a new normal … one displayed at the State of the Union. The president refuses to shake the hand of the speaker. The speaker tears up the written version of the president’s address. This is what we have dropped to. Both parties and yes, the supporters of both parties have created a political environment where such partisan behavior thrives.

I’ve seen enough. I have loved this country since my early days … remember Truman? But for my own peace and self preservation, I just can’t get too involved anymore. Stoicism is the healthiest path for a while.

When our citizens accept falsehoods as truth and the lack of compromise and civility are the new normals, we have far greater problems than impeachment. Don’t look at the politicians and our institutions … look in the mirror. If we continue to enable such an environment, it won’t improve. Demand honesty, compromise and a commitment to work for the betterment of our country rather than our own selfish opinions.

Don’t suggest I keep fighting … I can fight for a cause, but I can’t overcome people who refuse to listen, learn or reason.
