The poorest ZIP code
I live in the poorest ZIP code, not only in Washington state, but in the entire northwest.
Perhaps this is why the city believes it can do “to us” rather than work “with us.”
This was clarified when they took our neighborhood community development monies and used them for the Riverfront Park footbridge (already a $62 million project).
No investment in the heart of our neighborhood. They punctuated this travesty by announcing at a November 21 “public hearing” that an extension of the Centennial Trail will traverse 17 driveways (a huge safety issue) and narrow Summit Boulevard. (Major bus route from the West Central Community Center.)
There was NO public discussion from the neighbors, as there was none with the Pettet Drive debacle. We are not against the trail, we simply don’t want an asphalt extension of the Pettet Drive monstrosity.
We deserve a voice in what happens in our neighborhood. And the citizens of Spokane deserve a trail that is not rushed due to some federal grant money.
