Iran - some background

Background: The CIA’s overthrow of Iran’s elected government in 1953 ensured Western control of Iran’s petroleum resources and prevented the Soviet Union from competing for Iranian oil. The U.S. refusal to extradite the Shah back to Iran resulted in the captured U.S. embassy staff being held for 444 days. The United States actively supported the eight year Iraqi-Iran war effort by supplying the Iraqis with billions of dollars of credits, by providing U.S. military intelligence and advice to Saddam Hussein, and by closely monitoring third country arms sales to Iraq to make sure that Iraq had the military weaponry required. Throughout the war, an estimated 7,500 Iranian military and civilians were killed by Iraqi troops using chemical weapons. Iran Air Flight 655 was flying from Tehran to Dubai on July 3, 2008. A U.S. Navy cruiser shot it down with a loss of 290 lives.

President Trump’s biggest lie is the statement that the nuclear agreement with Iran wasn’t working. It was.

We have made a mess of the Middle East. It’s time to lift the sanctions and say no to war with Iran.
