A free, professional press
A free and professional press is vital to our democracy. Our times suffer from opinion masquerading as fact, bullying suppressing truth, and loyalty overriding integrity. We, the Faith Leaders and Leaders of Conscience of Eastern Washington and North Idaho, recognize the Spokesman-Review’s truthful coverage concerning white supremacy and Christian Dominionism within our communities and the controversial ideologies, writings and speeches of 4th District legislator Matt Shea.
We especially thank journalists Chad Sokol, Shawn Vestal and Jim Camden for their reporting and the editors for the extensive work on such controversial issues. As we follow your coverage, we recognize that reporters put themselves in harm’s way in order to discover and report the truth. Taking on these complicated and controversial subjects, the Spokesman-Review has shown a willingness to go above and beyond simply doing their job and has moved toward journalistic excellence.
We along with the future generations who will read your record of history thank you. May your courage be strengthened for the difficult days ahead.
