The Big Ask

The mayor has asked us to have patience while she works on the homelessness problem. Huh, looks like she is now standing in the muck trying to see which tools she will be needing to accomplish this fix. Get out the Big Toolbox, this one is a doozie!

One avenue she is advocating is “pushing nonprofits to do more.” Nonprofits are all the other organizations mentioned in the Jan. 19 article “Task force taking shape.” The super-powered nonprofits, with their magic, will be hamstrung by lack of resources in terms of money and manpower.

These nonprofits, as well as others, have been working on the problem of poverty in Spokane for years, and constantly have hat in hand asking Spokane citizens for more support. Ladies and gentlemen of Spokane, GET READY! Ask the man or woman in the mirror, “How much do I want to solve this problem?” Because if nonprofits are expected to do the heavy lifting, the power will come from you.
