We’re on the same team

Laws are illusions. Although they provide a guideline for civility and create a deterrent, they do not provide real solutions. Historically, they have divided our country. They are used as political weapons, a way to disparage each other and a means for garnering votes. They obscure our common values.

It is my belief that ALL Americans inherently value human life. We disagree in approach. Both parties falsely believe laws are the answer. However, laws alone are ineffective. Real change will happen when both parties focus on the root causes of problems instead of arguing over the legalities. Creating more restrictive gun laws does not change the reason why children believe shooting their classmates or themselves is the best answer. Implementing laws restricting abortion does not change the reason why women feel abortion is their best option.

Only when we understand the reasons for the choices people are making can we begin to formulate real solutions. Instead of demonizing the other party, we must support the single common goal of reducing the loss of ALL life. In truth, we are all on the same team. I play for the United States of America. Who do you play for?
