Harassing peaceful protests
A few comments regarding your June 24th article relating to the Church at Planned Parenthood and the recent lawsuit.
I attended my first ever Church at Planned Parenthood and was impressed with the police presence and the orderliness of the church attendees. The music was acoustic, the speaker’s microphones were muted to the point where any distance away it was hard to hear. Attendees took extra precaution to not cross over the sidewalk on to Planned Parenthood property so as not to cause any problems. The only “bullies” that Planned Parenthood relates to in the article must have been the passers-by who were shouting obscenities to the church attendees and the pro-choice folks flipping the finger and shouting curse words from across the street.
It is interesting that the reaction to peaceful protest is to pass stricter noise ordinances, increase police presence, insinuate harmful activities that never took place and threaten lawsuits, yet violent protests downtown are supported as a means of social change. I cannot help but feel that this is persecution of the church and its stand for life. Why harass peaceful protests? Maybe because they are speaking the truth?
If it is so disruptive to Planned Parenthood activities, maybe they should close earlier on nights when TCAPP meets - they make no secret of when they meet. The City Council seems to be fully on the side of Planned Parenthood - makes me wonder how much Planned Parenthood contributed to individual council members’ election campaign? Just a thought …
