The worst possible time

In my eight decades of life, I fear we have the worst possible president at the worst possible time.

Retired military officers have spoken about Trump’s threat to our democracy. They oppose his unconstitutional push to use active-duty troops against those protesting the police killing of George Floyd and this country’s unending racism.

Trump had his hand-picked and seemingly obeisant Attorney General turn the Department of Justice into a “department of injustice.”

Trump attacked our free press, which is vital to our democracy, by tweeting that the news media,” … is the enemy of the American people.”

He thinks our Constitution’s Article II allows him to do anything he wants. Ignoring “checks and balances,” he has created a “Trumpian dictatorship.”

He recklessly denied, and then down-played the pandemic danger, even when warned early on by national intelligence and CDC professionals. Trump is responsible for our unnecessary pandemic deaths.

Instead of “Draining the Swamp,” Trump surrounded himself with a circular cesspool of sycophancy. He destroyed the Republican Party—-a party that used to stand for the rule of law.

President Trump is dangerous to our democracy and our public health. For those of you who want power for the sake of power, you are condemning our country to an anti-democratic and pandemic future.

Short of his resignation, we must resoundingly vote President Trump and his enablers out of office in the upcoming elections. Then we can rebuild America into the “America” of its professed ideals.
