End the assumptions

In response to Elizabeth Cobbs’ letter, (“Do more than protest,” June 4), I request she refrain from assuming that those of us who oppose abortion do nothing to help children and families. I take great offense to your assumption that those who do not share your viewpoint on abortion live in glass houses.

My husband and I have been adoptive and foster parents for over 20 years. We have also brought other people into our family who needed help and care. In addition, my business partners and I started a company whose sole purpose was to empower and assist foster and adoptive families. Furthermore, I’ve spent over 30 years volunteering with agencies who partner with families in need, not to mention our personal tithing to assist children in need.

My purpose is not to toot my own horn, but to educate Ms. Cobb and anyone else who assumes “birthers” (Ms. Cobbs’ label, not mine) don’t care about children and families. There are millions of other people in the world who believe abortion is murder and dedicate their lives to helping women who are facing this horrible choice.

Your opening sentence is accurate, there are many things that can cause weariness right now. One of the greatest being the assumptions people are making about others without having all the facts. Let’s stop the name-calling, division, assumptions and work together to help each other.
