The new ‘pro-life’ politics

Any day now I expect to see a headline that claims Trump has cured cancer. That’s right. All we need to do is stop testing for cancer and the number of cases will drop “like you have never seen before.” It’s one thing to float stupid ideas if you are one of us common folks, but a president should have a higher standard. The president has vast medical resources to validate his medical advice, but instead listens to talking heads on TV shows.

Months ago, the president asked if disinfectants could be taken or injected internally to cure COVID-19. When we had only one death, the president claimed the cases would soon be zero. He claimed that seasonal temperature increase would kill the virus. The president gave himself a 10 when grading his response to the pandemic.

Now the president and his secretary of education are pushing for a political re-opening of our public schools. He stated that CDC guidelines for schools were “very tough” and “expensive.” The president threatened to cut off federal funding for schools that don’t reopen.

I wonder how Trump supporters will vote in November if their schoolkids spread COVID-19 to the grandparents. Just don’t test for the virus and say the grandparents died of old age. That’s the new version of Republican pro-life politics.
