Lost opportunity

The president has a problem with the coronavirus. In spite of his best efforts to bully it into submission or deny it out of existence, it doesn’t respond. And someone told him that he is out of a job if things don’t return to normal pretty soon.

The tragic thing is that there is still time to strictly button up (quarantine) the country for three or four weeks to reduce the number of virus infections to manageable levels, and probably save sixty thousand lives in the process. But Mr. Trump wants to force on-schedule school reopening, ignoring the disaster that occurred in Israel caused by a premature school opening.

Mr. Trump can’t be bothered with a two- or three-step procedures to reach a goal. Just charge in and let the pieces fall where they will.
