Common sense and COVID

Left-leading media figures say that things would have been better if the U.S. did widespread testing using South Korea’s methods. They blame President Trump, but it’s not his fault that such a system wasn’t in place.

What I don’t hear talked about often enough is that COVID-19 deaths mostly happen to older people with underlying issues. If a person dies of cancer or heart disease, and tested positive for COVID, he/she is counted as a COVID death.

As far as testing goes, a person could be tested and five minutes later get infected without knowing it. The speed of getting the results doesn’t help when this happens. Paying special attention to older folks who were unhealthy, including frequent testing & social distancing would have been a better strategy.

Government always overreacts to crises. Look at what happened after 9-11: Whenever we do air travel, we have to take off our belts, jackets, empty our pockets and walk through a body scanner. The TSA has not been allowed to profile anyone, so many have been hassled for the sins of a few. Those who would have been profiled were able to get Quick Passes.

Common sense always takes a back seat when government is tasked with solving big problems.
