June and the Julian calendar
In the SR’s “Looking Ahead” of Wednesday, 27 May, (“June is just around the corner”), the anonymous writer claims that it is “the Julian calendar that we use to this day.” This is just — by 432 years — a bit off.
Worldwide in use today is the Gregorian calendar, named after Pope Gregory XIII, who introduced it in October 1582, the Julian calendar having become ever more awkward. One cheer for also looking backward!
