Ignorance about wolves
Recently I read The Spokesman-Review’s article on what a stupid, wasteful and criminal failure the gray wolf management, human-driven tracking program has turned out to be; and now has come to represent the entire sum-total of gray wolf management ( “mismanagement “) program. (In just one of many incidents one wolf range rider turned in time cards that falsely represented his overnight trips to the Davenport Hotel, rather than at his post range spotting.)
I’m not a “tree kisser,” but these gray wolves deserve fairness, not just to be slaughtered on a whim. Few people consider that other animals ( including human poachers, on a regular basis) kill livestock very swiftly and effectively.
Once I took part in a state Canadian gray wolf study; they were FANTASTIC. I’d actually been lucky to see one up close. Their coloring is majestic, and they make remarkable parents. If we lost this species on Earth, though, it would be a huge tragedy. Sure, ranchers have to protect their livestock, however, if we kill off all of the gray wolves because of our bumbling ignorance and misplaced fear, we will be guilty of a great wrong.
