Promoting a fear pandemic
In 1933, Franklin Roosevelt said “The only thing we have to fear is fear itself.”
The Bible encourages God’s people 331 times, “Fear not.” In Isaiah 41:10 God said, “Fear not; for I am with you; be not dismayed; for I am your God: I will strengthen you; yes, I will help you.” Those of us who believe that God has a personal interest in us, specifically through Jesus Christ, need not fear.
Those in the media, politics, and other powerful places who do not know God are promoting a pandemic of fear. Epidemics have always occurred. Since 1918 we have had four pandemics in addition to annual flu seasons. During an epidemic those with the disease are quarantined — the others are left free.
With coronavirus, the general public is being quarantined. Large groups like sports events are canceled. The concern for the small ratio of infected people is wreaking havoc with the economy and personal lives of the vast majority because of the promotion of fear.
I understand that people can get the virus without showing symptoms and that those most susceptible are young children, the aged, and those with other health issues. Let’s protect them and leave the rest alone.
Don’t panic. Practice healthy measures. Let the disease run its course (flu season ends in spring). Then we can be a happier society.
