Stay calm! Don’t panic!
After reading “Viral ethics: Keeping our moral compass in a time of confinement” (Spokesman-Review, March 19) and with living during this epidemic, it has struck me how people are seemingly “losing their minds.”
Our constant updates and surge of media covering this COVID-19 outbreak has left people in a panic. You can walk into almost any store across America, it looks as if it has been ransacked. Our “moral compass” as was described is under attack.
I believe that the constant slamming of breaking COVID-19 news deeming it like it is the end of the world is the cause of this all. This system of information distribution needs to be changed to more positive outlooks and things that are helpful versus news that scares people. The news updates we receive should not create panic.
By asserting the seriousness but keeping a calm among citizens, this is the best way to smooth our process through this virus. I believe that nothing but good can come of this. If we can create a calm within the storm so people can step back and see, we can do this! Coming together to do what is needed without tearing us further apart is key in these times.
