To those 51 brave, compassionate GOP senators who grasped the wisdom of voting against Patty Murray’s bill to extend paid sick leave for Americans affected by COVID-19. Common decency, after all, suggests we must strictly marshal all available funds to save needy Wall Street banks … . again, particularly in a time of global pandemic.

I’m proud to live in this Christian nation where the GOP so boldly embodies this piece of New Testament advice: “For what profit is it to a man if he gains the whole world, and loses his own soul?”

  • No more than 250 words
  • We reserve the right to reject letters that are not factually correct, racist or are written with malice.
  • We cannot accept more than one letter a month from the same writer.
  • With each letter, include your daytime phone number and street address.
  • The Spokesman-Review retains the nonexclusive right to archive and re-publish any material submitted for publication.
