Positive stories lift us

More and more often I hear people say they don’t read the paper because “it’s all bad news.” Well, lately it has been full of bad news, but also important information/news for the public.

But what these people are missing out on are the positive human interest stories like the ones published in the past few days:

The Presley family serenading their mom/grandmother with Irish melodies on St. Patrick’s Day from a safe distance. Mom/Grandmother is in an assisted living facility who enjoyed her private concert from her apartment window.

Representative Marcus Riccelli’s guest column regarding the Hunger Free Schools Act which he is shepherding through the Spokane schools. Which will provide free breakfast and lunches to ALL the students who are in our lower-income school districts.

And Eli Francovich’s article describing how we all can let fear disrupt our tendency to reach out and help a stranger — in his case, an obviously seriously ill elderly lady whom he guided to the STA plaza.

During this crisis, Spokane people rise above, and in their own, individual ways, watch out for family, friends, strangers and constituents.
