Protest on your own time
It’s no secret that the pro-life protesters outside of Planned Parenthood on Indiana Street in Spokane are disrupting the quality of health care. While driving down Indiana Street, I am forced to see pro-life protesters. They are praying, singing biblical songs, holding signs of unborn babies with terrible phrases written for everyone to see.
As a woman, this is detrimental to see every day, and I could only imagine the shame people would feel if they needed to access Planned Parenthood for one of the many options of care they provide.
The problem of the protesters is that they are so loud, they are disruptive to the health care facility itself. Loud noises and singing could be distracting for doctors and could make patients feel more uncomfortable than they already do. In February of this year, Planned Parenthood filed an ordinance against protesters. “The ordinance would also allow a patient to file a lawsuit against protesters if they believe their health care was compromised because of the protests.” (Waltower). A solution could be to ban protesting during business hours; that way no one would be negatively affected by the protesters.
Please consider how big of an issue this is for patients at Planned Parenthood.
