The vulnerability of each of us
The more I learn the less I know: COVID-19, the state of America’s economics, and the vulnerability of each of us. My spirit is saggin’.
Wednesday, when I arrived at Blessings Under the Bridge, it was obvious that this was not our normal Wednesday night meal for all of us. It was back to the basics: brown bag lunch, drinks, and a treat for our friends. It was only the core team that was serving tonight. No volunteers.
It started off with some fellowship — scripture and prayer. Then we all manned our positions. Within about 20 minutes, we served about 125 guests. They were uneasy, but grateful. It seemed that tonight’s guests were some of the most vulnerable that I have seen in some time.
As I was serving, I saw a man walk away from Jessica and Tania. For some reason, I looked down. My heart sank as I saw his feet. Walk in someone’s shoes for a while, they say. Not this man. He had no shoes, and his feet were absolutely filthy. Before he walked away tonight, however, he had himself a little somethin’ to eat and some shoes to put on his feet.
I beg of you my friends to find your way to bless others during this unforeseen challenge that threatens us all. I beg you to also connect with your faith. Please hold on to it.
