I made the decision of physical distancing on Friday the 13 due to an underlying lung disease. A few days later, I received a call from my daughter, quarantined in her 500-square-foot apartment in Barcelona, Spain, with a roommate.

She reminded me that due to my age (yes, 60+ includes lots of us who don’t feel old) and medical condition; I need to be in full quarantine. She doesn’t want me to die. Ah, lessons from our children. I suddenly realized that I must do my part to protect myself and those around me. If my daughter can live in a tiny apartment with no balcony, terrace or garden, and on top of that stay positive, then I can too.

China and South Korea have led the way in controlling the virus. China did a full quarantine and South Korea did mass testing and disinfecting early on. Since it’s too late for the U.S. to follow the South Korean model, our only hope is to follow China’s strict quarantine policy. We all need to stay at home, hunker down, and stop this virus in its tracks.
