Gerson doesn’t get it

I’m happy to express my difference of opinion with Mr. Gerson in his piece, “Crisis Exposes Trump’s Mediocrity.” Gerson was head of speechwriting for President George W. Bush, a president not known for fighting back against a hostile press. That’s probably why Gerson doesn’t understand why President Trump performs as he does during the COVID-19 task force briefings.

The briefings have provided much valuable information to our country. I’ve watched many of the briefings and heard Trump praise and thank the health professionals and the other workers keeping our country going during this crisis many, many times.

Trump repeatedly states what his administration is doing because the press does not report what is happening in a factual manner, instead engaging in “gotcha” questions. Gerson ignores the real timeline of action that President Trump took to make our country safe in spite of what many of his political opponents and the press were advocating at the time.

President Trump has often expressed his concern for those sickened by the virus and his sympathy for those who have died from the pandemic, irregardless of what Gerson has said. The president is doing a fine job of keeping the nation safe and attempting to work with his medical and scientific advisers, the governors of the states, and the members of the Senate and Congress to return our citizens to work and to life as we know it in the USA, no thanks to Mr. Gerson’s mediocre opinion piece.
