Thank you to local heroes

I started a letter fuming about our president. But instead I want to recognize our local heroes. Thank you to Governor Inslee for making difficult decisions early on that helped “flatten the curve” in Washington state. To officials in Spokane County whose timely actions have saved lives, especially the articulate and trustworthy Dr. Bob Lutz. To our medical personnel and first responders who risk their lives every day to keep us safe. To our mayor and city council for their quick actions to protect our homeless. To local news reporters, print and broadcast, who have worked tirelessly to present us with actual facts, and real information about this dangerous virus.

To the Spokane Alliance for its program to support virus patients at home, Spokane Food Fighters who have delivered thousands of meals from local restaurants and food boxes from Second Harvest. To Meals on Wheels, Catholic Charities, Salvation Army, Union Gospel Mission and all our local organizations that continue to serve those in need. To workers who keep goods in stores, truck drivers who transport them, postal workers who deliver mail.

To parents teaching kids at home and teachers and professors providing course materials on line. For technology that has allowed us to stay in touch with friends and family, for the Botanical Alchemists - Ava and Sarah - who built a labyrinth near Polly Judd Park, and the work of all local artists, musicians, and writers who have raised our spirits.

I am grateful to you all.
