The system needs to change

I am extremely concerned about the controversy over the administration of the Spokane Regional Health District asking that Dr. Lutz resign. He has been a very calm and thoughtful presence throughout this epidemic.

I am suspicious that the administrator, Amelia Clark, has strong political motivation and is anti mask-wearing and social distancing. This seems to purely political and on the eve of a very divisive election seems like an awful move.

In my opinion Dr. Lutz should only report to Dr. Kathy Lofty, M.D., the State Health Officer and not to a board with seemingly political motivation. Science and politics should be kept separate. I feel that this board should be purely advisory and not have the power to ask someone to resign.

This whole system needs to change. I do appreciate Dr Lutz’s efforts and would like to thank him.

Elizabeth DeNiro, M.D.
