Firing was reprehensible

I strongly disagree with the actions of (Spokane Regional Health District) Board administrator Amelia Clark locking Dr. Lutz, our legally authorized public health officer, out of work during a global pandemic. I do believe that she should be removed from her position as she has lost all confidence of the staff, medical community and many members of our community.

The board’s firing Dr Lutz and appointment of a “more business friendly” interim public health officer is reprehensible. Public health decisions need to be made based on science, not the whims of unhappy politicians. Under Dr. Lutz our county, compared to demographically similar counties, shows lower than average cases, hospitalizations and death counts. While I did not agree with all of Dr. Lutz’s decisions, I believe that a we will see a significant uptick in these metrics if we do not follow the medical science.
