Lots to stream in coming weeks, including Baby Yoda
Above : A scene featuring The Child (or Baby Yoda) from Season 2 of the Disney+ series “The Mandalorian.” (Disney+)
A while ago I wrote about the Disney+ series “The Mandalorian,” which creator Jon Favreau described as something of an homage “to the Westerns and samurai films that had originally influenced (George) Lucas.”
Lucas, of course, is the man who created the “Star Wars” franchise , of which “The Mandalorian” is one of the most recent parts.
If you’re a fan of the series, as I am, and you are a Disney+ subscriber, you’ll be glad to know that Season 2 of “The Mandalorian” will premiere on Oct. 30.
Unlike many projects that were either postponed, or outright scuttled, by the COVID-19 quarantine, Season 2 had been completed before production was shut down.
So we’ll get to see the continuing story of bounty hunter Din Djarin ( Pedro Pascal) and his efforts both to make a living while tasked to return The Child (aka Baby Yoda) to his native alien species.
Here are some other projects/movies I’m looking forward to seeing in the coming month(s):
“The Trial of the Chicago 7” (Netflix, Oct. 15): Aaron Sorkin wrote and directed this look back at the famous 1969-70 trial of the at-the-time infamous defendants who were charged with various crimes associated with the 1968 Democratic National Convention in Chicago. Among the star casting, look for Sasha Baron Cohen as Abbie Hoffman .
“The Personal History of David Copperfield” (Amazon Prime, Oct. 16): Since I haven’t been in a theater since March, I’ll finally take the opportunity to watch this update of the Charles Dickens novel that stars Dev Patel.
Season 4 of “The Crown” (Netflix, Nov. 15): Olivia Colman will return as Queen Elizabeth II in this fictional portrayal of the British royal family. Also returning: Tobias Manzies as Prince Philip and Helena Bonham Carter as the queen’s sister, Princess Margaret. Look for Gillian Anderson as Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher.
And there’s lots more out there. All you have to do is look.
