Turn off the mics
I was really looking forward to the first presidential debate because I thought it would be fun to see two very different people with very different styles engage in a discussion. Unfortunately it turned out to be a shouting match where it was difficult to determine if anything meaningful was actually said, and the only thing I got out of it was a headache.
My suggestion to the folks who run the debates would be to only activate one microphone at a time and hold the participants to strict time lines. There should never be a time when both are speaking (or at least being heard) at the same time. Otherwise they might as well just give them bowls of pudding to throw at each other. It would be more entertaining.
